Where Science Meets Soil

In the heart of North Carolina — the sweetpotato capital of the world — we decided to bottle up a little piece of our heritage.

Here, the soil runs deep with flavor, and the humble sweetpotato isn’t just a crop — it’s a way of life. Generations of growers have cultivated this golden root in our red clay fields, turning it into one of the state’s most celebrated agricultural treasures.

We saw an opportunity to honor that legacy in a new way.

Rootsii was born from a simple idea: what if the crop North Carolina grows better than anywhere else could become something unexpectedly creamy, versatile, and plant-powered?

What’s with the “ii”?

Sweetpotatoes are root vegetables — the kind that grow quietly underground, soaking up the sun’s hard work through the earth.

We wanted a name that dug just as deep.

In scientific naming, a double “i” often honors a person or place. For us, it’s a small nod to our home state — and to the generations of farmers who perfected this crop long before we ever poured it into a glass.

Rootsii isn’t just a name.
It’s a wink to science.
And a thank-you to North Carolina.

Why We’re Building This

Rootsii sits at the intersection of agriculture and innovation.

We’re developing a plant-based milk made from an abundant, locally grown crop — with the goal of supporting regional agriculture while creating something genuinely useful in everyday kitchens.

Our approach blends:

  • Agricultural heritage

  • Food science innovation

  • A clean-label mindset

  • A commitment to local impact

We believe sustainability doesn’t have to mean sacrifice — and innovation doesn’t have to lose its roots.

From the red clay fields of North Carolina to your glass, we’re here to prove that the best ideas, like the best flavors, start underground.
